LIFE WRITING & SHORT FICTION WORKSHOP COURSE

Workshop practitioner: Giovanna Iozzi

Writers of all levels welcome to this workshop-style course which will give students the opportunity to share their short fiction, life writing or memoir. We will kick off every week week with interesting and inspiring writing exercises as well as discussions on any issues arising in the writing process. In each session a designated number of students will share extracts of their prose and receive supportive and constructive feedback on aspects of writing such as character, structure, tone, voice, dialogue etc. Giovanna will provide handouts on elements of style and written targets for homework. Over 6 weeks students will develop confidence and drafting skills as well as the stamina to continue their creative projects on their own beyond the course confines.

 

DEVELOPING YOUR INNER VOICE AND WRITING STYLE

Do you have an imaginative or fascinating story to tell but have not yet developed your voice and written it down? Through a series of creative writing workshops aimed at ethnic minority women, week on week we will use culture references alongside simple reading and writing techniques to empower you to tell, discuss and share your stories, develop your voice, gain confidence in writing the stories, sharing them with a wider audience and lead to some of the written stories being published to highlight new writing from Black, Asian and ethnic minority women living in London. Led by the critically acclaimed Somali-British novelist, Nadifa Mohamed.

 

FINDING THE POEM

All are welcome on this fun and liberating workshop-based course, whether you are new to writing, or wish to expand your collection of poems, or are a prose writer wanting to explore your writing capabilities. Expect to be highly productive as you learn how to find and unlock poems, let them build, grow and multiply. Exercises in class, focused on tiny details, every day experiences, or life-changing events, will enable you to encapsulate aspects of your internal and external worlds. This is a friendly and constructive course which previous students have described as ‘inspirational’.  “As a teacher Paul is warm, friendly and generous. WRITING YOUR NOVEL

Workshop practitioner: Sonia Lambert

Are you looking for confidence, support and motivation in writing your novel? This six week class is designed for writers who have begun or are halfway through their novel, and who would like to refine their writing skills, develop self-discipline and need support and feedback. Classes will involve exercises, looking at the mechanics of fiction and how to perfect them, and how to set goals for yourself. The group will look closely at each other’s writing to assess what is working and what needs to be further developed.
